Nickel is a silver-looking metal, sometimes greyish, with a 8.9 density. This crystalline body is often shiny and is shinier after polishing. It is a non-ferrous metal, classed as a transition metal. It is quite hard, the hardest metal after chrome. It is also resistant, ductile and malleable, and particularly more malleable than cobalt. Its mechanical properties are similar to iron's properties. Nickel is easily cold-rolled and stretched into fine wires.
Nickel alloys have good electrical and heat conductivity. It is ferromagnetic.
