Brass is a non-ferrous alloy composed of copper and zinc in various proportions.
Depending on its chemical composition, brass can be found under different names: tombac, archal, Florentine bronze (or Venitian bronze ), similor or pinchbeck.
- Zinc is used to reduce the temperature of the alloy's melting point and for its electrical conductivity. It enhances the alloy's longevity and its mechanical resistance.
Brass may also contain traces of chrome, tin or manganese.
- Brass is a flexible alloy which can be cold or hot-rolled. It is easy to manufacture, albeit relatively fragile. It is one of the most used copper alloys.
