Nickel-silver is a copper-nickel-zinc base alloy (50-67% copper,10-25% nickel, and 12-26% zinc. It has got a white, silvery aspect due to the nickel it contains. It is a hard, albeit elastic alloy, used in the manufacturing of electronic springs, zips or cutlery.
- This alloy, resistant to corrosion, and with low electrical conductivity, has a high machinability and weldability, and is mainly used for cold-working.
- Nickel-silver is generally harder, but slightly more elastic than silver. Although silver has a better resonance, which guarantees better flute sounds, nickel-silver is cheaper and suitable, too.
